He added: “We have a situation where Facebook can no longer pretend to be this benign fun place where people stick up a photo of their dog and then get followed with a pet food advert as a sort of quid pro quo. There’s now a malicious situation. Facebook can no longer argue it is just a host site. They are publishers and there has to be legislation. We cannot have a Wild West approach…They have to be held responsible.”

SNP Government doing ‘far better than Westminster’ on child health

DOCTORS have praised the Scottish Government for doing “far better than Westminster” on child health policies such as breastfeeding and tackling childhood obesity, but warned that urgent action is still needed in areas such as GP training and reviewing child deaths.

A report by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health scored Scotland, England and Wales on their performance against a series of key recommendations a year on from a landmark report by the professional body.

SNP ministers warn of emergency Brexit legislation

The 1998 Scotland Act makes it clear that unless powers are specifically reserved to Westminster, they should be exercised at Holyrood by default.

However the EU (Withdrawal) Bill would see all powers repatriated from the EU at Brexit going to Westminster, at least initially, even those in devolved areas.

The Scottish and Welsh governments say this is a “naked power grab”.
